Sports cars are all about getting our blood pumping with breath taking performance as well as heart stopping good looks. Unfortunately, sometimes designers get a little lost in their drawing boards and produce something which is definitely more about function than it is about form! Here's 12 of the ugliest sports cars of all time of course it a matter of opinion, No.9 is a bit of a shocker, but which one do you think is the worst of all??
1. Weber Faster One (Gen 1 Design)
The Weber Faster 1 has a 0-62 mph in 2.7 seconds; 0-124 in 6.6 seconds and a V8 engine which pushes out 900bhp! That said it could well be one of the ugliest cars ever produced..I'm sure there is a load of reasons for it's body shape.
2. Mosler Raptor
With a Bat Mobile type cockpit and a 443 hp 6.3 L V8, the Mosler Raptor has won the One Lap Of America race twice.
3. Mitsuoka Orochi
The design inspiration of this car came from a fish
4. Lister Storm
The jaguar V12 powered Lister Storm is a very competitive sports car … and when we say “competitive” we mean it has never done particularly well in any of the races it has been entered into…for example it finished 59 laps behind the winning car when it entered Le Mans…soooo…NOT very competitive at all then!…And butt ugly!…let’s be honest, it looks like a kit car based on a BMW 850…which thinking about it, should also be on this list too!!!
5. Costin Amigo
Yes..yes…before you go all “high horse” it’s a classic of 70’s racing, we know…but what the hell is with the stupidly long bonnet…what’s it got under there a straight 12…err..no, it’s a 2.0ltr from a Vauxhall. Put your hand over the front of this picture…nice rear, quite “Marcos”…then put your hand over the rear…nice front, quite TVR…
6. GDT Speedster
What the heck is going on here?? So, what, did the designer do the rear of the car then go on holiday and forget to finish the front…so the intern did it….what were they thinking!!!
7. Blast automotive Blast
Ok…so, it’s a kit car, which mean it was probably designed on a budget..and on a napkin..or by someone who should just never be designing cars! I’m sure it’s a very good “drivers car”…but then so is a Caterham 7 and that doesn’t look like an extra from a 60’s Sci-Fi movie!…
8. Jetstream SC250
Ok, this is a bit of an unfair choice as this really is designed for function not flair and the Jetstream SC250 has the same type of performance from it’s 2.0ltr engine as the Lotus Elise…however, it’s not cheap…for the money, you could also buy an amazing supercharged Ariel Atom
9. Avanti Roadster
Sooo… this exists!…Couldn’t get a better picture of it sorry…which probably isn’t a bad thing!
10. Skelta G Force
Ok..we know it’s a great car in terms of performance. 158mph top speed and a 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, not to mention an amazing 460bhp Hartley V8 engine…. and yes it did really well at Pike’s Peak last year…but why does the front end have to look like this??? And the rear end is worse…come on guys…it does have to look a little bit like a $200,000 sports car!
11. Marcos Xylon GT
Yep…it’s the original “ugly duckling”. Marcos have produced a few wacky looking sports cars, but this one just takes the biscuit! We know all about it being Jackie Stewart’s first race car and that it’s a piece of motor racing history
12. Bangladeshi Motors RMX-1
The designer of the utterly terrible RMX 1 was actually quoted as saying he wanted to add side windows to his design so the driver could see out of the side…what a break through.
