1938 Ford Flathead V8 (120bhp) - 2 Seater Coupe. For Sale
This is a truly beautiful car, having undergone a complete nut and bolt restoration, which included some very worthwhile mechanical upgrades. It presents beautifully today and is a very stylish example of pure Art Deco Americana. The car had been purchased from a collector in America who had owned and cherished it for many years, old age had subsequently forced him to recently sell his car collection. This car really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. The original Ford 221 Flat Head engine was fully rebuilt and upgraded with Offenhauser alloy cylinder Heads and twin inlet alloy manifold, Isky Camshafts, Twin rebuilt Holly Carbs, Mallory electronic Ignition etc, this alone amounted to a cost of over $10,000.. The engine now produces 120bhp and purrs along giving that gorgeous flathead V8 sound and easily keeping up with modern traffic. The gearbox was also fully rebuilt, suspension and shock absorbers fully upgraded. Brakes were converted to a new hydraulic system and all electrics renewed and changed to 12V . There is of course comprehensive documentation and a photographic record of the restoration. The car looks absolutely stunning in its original black colour. Other very subtle modifications include a fully louvered bonnet and slight modification to the suspension, this gives it the perfect stylish look plus greatly improved road handling. The interior is also in splendid order throughout, all the gauges switches and lights work correctly. Included in the sale are a pair of very rare and totally original rear wheel arch covers, these were a very fashionable art deco period option, they were designed to completely cover both rear wheel arches to make the car look even more stylish. This particular model of two seater coupe was only built during 1938 and very few now remain in this original overall condition, many had been converted into racing and rally cars and hotrods during the 1940"s and 50"s. Whenever I"ve parked this car in a public place it always draw a crowd of spectators..
If necessary I would consider taking an interesting Right hand drive car in part exchange, it wouldn"t harm to ask or put forward a suggestion.
