For Sale is my 1938 Ford Flathead V8 (120bhp) - 2 Seater Coupe.
This is a truly superb and very useable 80 year old car, having undergone a complete and thorough nut and bolt restoration, which also included some very worthwhile mechanical upgrades.
It presents beautifully and is a very stylish example of pure Americana Art Deco. The car had been purchased from a collector in America who owned and cherished it for many years. Old age has forced him to sell his car collection. The original Ford 221 Flat Head engine was fully stripped and rebuilt, upgraded with Offenhauser alloy cylinder Heads, twin inlet alloy manifold, Isky Camshaft, Twin original rebuilt Holly Carbs, Mallory electronic Ignition and a host more, this in itself amounted to a cost of well over $10,000.. The engine now produces an exciting 120bhp and purrs along giving that gorgeous flathead V8 sound
easily keeping up with modern traffic. The gearbox was fully rebuilt, plus suspension and shock absorbers fully upgraded.
Brakes were converted to a new hydraulic system and all electrics renewed and changed to 12V . There is comprehensive documentation and a photographic record of the engine restoration. The car looks absolutely stunning in its original black coachwork. Other very subtle modifications include the fully louvered bonnet and modification to the suspension, this gives it the perfect stylish look plus immensely improved road handling. The interior trim is also in splendid order throughout, all the gauges switches and lights work correctly. Included in the sale is also an original pair of very rare rear wheel arch covers, these were a very fashionable art deco period options that were designed to completely cover both rear wheel arches to make the car look even more sleek. This particular style of two seater Ford coupe was only built during 1938 as Ford did subtle alterations of the design each year therefore very few now remain in this original overall condition as most had been converted into racing or rally cars and of course hotrods during the 1940"s and 50"s.
