1948 Chevrolet 3600 Ton Thriftmaster Stepside Pickup Truck

5 Window Cab Delux Model

Very original iconic truck with fantastic patina.

We bought this vehicle in 2008 and it"s been on the road ever since.

The previous owner imported the truck in 2006/7 from Colorado where it had worked on a farm for most of its life in the ownership of the same family (we think since new).

UK registered, V5 Present & ready to drive away.

MOT & Tax Exempt.

Very cheap classic car insurance available (I pay 102 a year).

Left hand drive

Original Straight-Six 216 cubic inch (3.5 litre) engine

Original 4-speed floor-change manual gearbox (Later trucks and ton models had column change).

Original 6-Volt electrics

Long bed means it is more practical than a ton and is able to carry motorbikes

Oily Rag , Original & Unrestored condition:-

Ripped seats

Some dents to bodywork

Cracked glass on screen and windows

Missing door cards & headlining

Original bed wood lurks beneath the metal bed sheet cover.

(Please bear in mind that this vehicle is approaching 70 years old).

Work I have had carried out over the last 9 years includes:-

New head gasket

New (6V) Battery

Reconditioned Leaf Springs

Refurbished Wheel Hubs (original 8 stud wheel rims)

Refurbished prop shaft

New clutch

New brake cylinders

Renewed / replaced rear lights, indicators & wiring

Comes with a large file of paperwork, bills etc.

Jobs that could do with doing:-

Fuel tank The old fuel tank is currently out of the truck and could (in theory) be repaired but new ones are available for 200 online. I fitted a plastic marine fuel tank in a metal trunk in the bed which has worked fine for me for nearly a decade.

Tyres The tyres are worn and could do with replacing. The spare (with white-wall gator) is brand new.

I have amassed the following spares which WILL come with the truck (if the asking price is achieved and the purchaser wants them):-

Front Axle

Back Axle

Steering Parts (incl. Steering Box)

Suspension Parts (incl. Springs)

Gearbox

4 x Wheel hubs (+ Extras)

Spare rear bumper

Parts are easy to get hold of online through various suppliers.

This is not your average basket case import from the states, this is a well-known and well-loved original truck that has been in the UK for nearly a decade, and is on-the-road and ready to drive away. I will be sad to see her go but my job in London means she is just not being used as much as she should be.

I would like to see this vehicle go to an enthusiast who intends to keep it as original as possible. Too many of the trucks are Hot-rodded and this one attracts more attention at the shows than any rodded examples - through simply being original.

Having said that, this might be an opportunity to restore this lovely truck. Restored sell for upwards of 25k. Prices for these trucks are only going to go one way as the current exchange rate means that importing vehicles is now less profitable but demand is increasing.

Asking price: 9,950.

(No swaps, part-exchanges or silly offers please).

Truck is located in Evesham, Worcestershire
Date written: 24-Jul-2017

Price: £9950 As stated
