Very attractive 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe in Tahoe Turquoise.

Engine is 289cid 2V 200bhp V8.
3 speed Automatic fully refurbished in 2017.
Mileage c. 83K and the car runs beautifully. Average 17 mpg.

Summary: A lifelong California car, built in San Jose, imported in 2016. Significantly restored with bare metal respray, waxoyl and underseal, matching interior refurbishment, rebuilt automatic transmission and many new parts.
Much admired and a privilege to own. Selling for family reasons.
Valued last year by Hagerty as excellent plus .

The bare metal respray involved removing all chrome, front and rear screens and bonnet and trunk lid. Minor dents and any other panel issues were addressed and the car then primed prior to painting in the original dark aqua metallic (Tahoe Turquoise). Screens refitted with new rubbers. New exterior chrome for gutter and hood trims, emblems, door mirrors and aerial. Otherwise refitted with original chrome. Front bumper has a flake of chrome missing at one end and a couple of other bits of minor damage.

The interior refit included new headliner, carpet, car seat covers, top of dash, glove box liner, kick panels, sill plates, door panels and armrests. Front of dash, sun visors, and steering wheel are original as is the full length console (quite rare in matching aqua) but the end of console light fitting is new. The inside of the front doors and shuts were repainted whilst the original internal rear quarter panels show how good the paint match is. The rear parcel shelf is covered in grey audio carpet with speakers underneath. The original radio is disconnected and the aerial connected to a CD player hung underneath the dash.

Whilst not original, seatbelts have been fitted. Fully colour coordinated there are two inertia reel three point belts in the front with two lap belts in the rear.

The car has been undersealed and waxoyled in all cavities, inside doors, etc. The trunk floor is fitted with a trunk filler board and acoustic underlayment pads and is covered with original style plaid vinyl with matching tyre and jack covers. All wheels have original hubcaps (plus two spares) and new Continental tyres. New tyre on spare too.

The engine bay has been tidied but not restored except for the large blue air filter. New components include starter motor, radiator, all four power steering pipes and brake shoes. Brakes are not powered. Exhaust is sound. Starting from cold requires a dozen accelerator pumps to prime carb but then she restarts easily for rest of the day.

The car still has the original Thermactor emissions reducer as required by California law in 1966. Apparently it takes 15bhp to run the unit and many have had it removed but I love the history and originality of it.

All lights, including interior ones, working except for reversing lamps where the housing alloy appears not to connect.
