1969 Mustang Shelby GT500 auction
A 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 that was found in a garage with just 8531 miles on its odometer will head to the auction block next month. The car is scheduled to be auctioned by Pennsylvania's R Gilligan Auctions on April 25.
The 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 is part of an estate sale and belonged to Larry A. Brown. According to the auction company, the car is a genuine Shelby model with serial number 1946, and was purchased new in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, in May 1969. Brown appears to have kept extremely good care of the classic muscle car, not only keeping its mileage low, but also reportedly declining to ever wash the car for fear water would cause it to rust. Other evidence that Brown doted on his Shelby includes the fact that the interior and seats were found covered with garbage bags, and two sets of floor mats protected the carpet.

The 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 was equipped with a 7.0-liter V-8 engine, unique styling changes, and a four-speed manual transmission. After removing a layer of dust and grime, the auction company says the Black Jade paint appears 75 percent original, aside from a few applications of touch-up paint. After adding new fuel and changing the battery, the auctioneers were able to start and run the car, suggesting it may not need too much work to be restored for road use.
According to the Hagerty Price Guide, the car could be worth between $77,500 and $98,400 -- but the amount it will really sell for depends on its actual condition and the interests of auction attendees. When new, this particular 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 stickered for $5245.79.
