Just in from the dry state of Arizona is this amazing 1946 Chevy 3/4 ton Pick Up.

A genuine one owner truck, it is completely unmodified, and in frankly astounding condition. Bought new in "46, it spent its working life as a general store delivery truck in North Dakota (They have snow, but they don"t salt the roads), and as far as we can tell was retired and barn stored in the late 60"s. There it stayed until being bought down to Arizona as someone"s retirement restoration project which never happened, so we found it and shipped it back to the UK.

Firstly, there is absolutely zero rot in this truck. The door bottoms, cab corners, running boards etc are all solid as the day it was built. The chassis is the same, and, other than a light dusting of surface rust in places, there is no rust at all. The doors open and close like new, and the front end panel fit is great. Obviously the truck wears a few scars from it"s working life, and the the worst of these are to the rear wings and pick up area, but its all fixable if thats your thing, though I rather like it as it is, it shows its history.

The interior is again complete and in solid condition, with a couple of cool original accessories such as the steering wheel knob and the ashtray. The seat will need recovering, the dash is complete, and the windows operate as they should, including the wind-out windscreen. Mechanically the truck is as it came from the factory, with the 216ci straight six engine and manual gearbox. It runs and selects gears well as tested in Arizona (Where it still has current road tags), but unfortunately the shippers misplaced the ignition key, so we"ve not run it over here yet. A new ignition switch is on order though, and it should be running well in the next week or so.

The chassis is similarly solid, and the brakes are in working order. Originally the truck came with the sometimes troublesome split-rim wheels, but we have changed these for later ones for reliability and safety, though the originals come with the truck. It also benefits from new tyres all round. We"ve not had a chance to test the original 6v electrics yet, but its all there, if looking a bit frail, so assume it will require updating at some point. There are some neat accessory stop lamps, and some wing mounted front spots too, all of which look to have been fitted from new.

This truck really needs to be seen to be appreciated. Its originality, plus the lack of rust, are rare indeed these days, and I have no hesitation in saying this is the best original 41-47 style Chevy truck available in the UK (If not further afield) at the moment. It"s a real time capsule, and deserves to see many more happy road miles now it has retired. If you want something to put a V8 and airbags on then please buy one of the lesser examples on the market just now, but if you want an honest original truck to love and cherish, this is the one for you.
