While there are loads of superminis and city cars on offer to Motability scheme members, you won't necessarily find the same nil advance payment deals if you want a larger MPV.
Despite this, there are still some great MPV choices on Motability, including seven-seat options like the Volkswagen Sharan and Ford S-MAX. So for ultimate access and practicality, check out our pick of the Best Motability MPVs.
Citroen Berlingo
The Berlingo majors on all the things that make a great MPV – brilliant passenger and boot space, low running costs and great value.
Most MPVs are designed with practicality at the forefront, but few others execute this thinking as well as the Berlingo. In every interior dimension, the Berlingo is huge: head, leg and shoulder room are vast, and there’s enough width to the second row that three child seats can be fitted across. The large sliding rear doors make it easy to get in, too.
Whether you opt for petrol or diesel power, the Berlingo remains fairly smooth and refined; the petrol model is ideal for those who cover shorter distances, while the diesel is great for regular longer trips or towing duties.
Although closely related to the Peugeot Rifter and Vauxhall Combo Life, the Berlingo manages to bring added character with its quirky design touches. It may not be quite as fun as most rival family cars, but it’s practicality where the Citroen Berlingo has always shone, and the good news is that it’s now more useful than ever.
Citroen Grand C4 SpaceTourer
While affordable seven-seat SUVs have stolen sales from traditional people carriers, if you’re after the most effective way of transporting seven adults and their gear, there’s no contest: you still need an MPV. And, Citroen’s second entrant in this category, the Grand C4 SpaceTourer, is one of the best.
It offers plenty of versatility, because you can slide the middle row of seats to prioritise legroom or boot space in five-seat configuration, while all five rear seats fold individually.
There’s a strong 165-litre luggage capacity in the Grand C4 SpaceTourer with all seven seats in place, rising to a maximum of 793 litres in five-seat from. Fold the second row down, too, leaving a completely flat load space, and you get a small van-rivalling 2,181 litres.
Three trim levels and engine options keep things simple for customers, while Citroen has focused on delivering high levels of comfort for all occupants. The front seats feature electric massage and adjustable lumbar support, while the front passenger seat has an electrically-adjustable footrest.
On-board tech is all taken care of, too - there's Citroën Connect Nav, Connect Box and Mirror Screen technologies, all working to make journeys that bit easier.
Ford Galaxy
The Ford Galaxy is still a great choice if you want a plush seven-seat family car. Ford has traded a little of the previous model’s handling for greater comfort and refinement, and it’s now one of the best in the large MPV class for refinement and luxury.
Ford's seven-seater now cruises along in near silence at town speeds and is remarkably hushed on the motorway. In fact, we'd go as far as saying that the Galaxy is within touching distance of the most expensive luxury cars in terms of refinement, which is no mean feat.
There's just two equipment levels available, a single petrol or diesel engine and either a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto gearbox. So, if you've decided on a Galaxy as your next purchase, the process should be pretty straightforward.
With prices starting at almost £34,000, it isn't cheap, but the Galaxy delivers on practicality with an enormous boot, an interior littered with clever cubby holes and a hugely versatile seating layout. You also sit high up, with a big windscreen and a good view of the road, while standard front and rear parking sensors make low-speed manoeuvring that bit easier.
