The rise of new geographical auto markets (and stagnation of others), the proliferation of new "connected-car" technologies including automated driving, and a diminishing case for car ownership are among a number of challenges facing automotive industry decision makers. The challenges are spelled out in a new KPMG LLP white paper titled "Me, My Car, My Life" (http://www.kpmg.com/US/en/IssuesAndInsights/ArticlesPublications/Documents/me-my-life-my-car.pdf). None of the challenges that the report highlights is a revelation; what"s notable about the report is how it summarizes the challenges and attaches dollar and other figures to them. And it offers some advice to automakers, including this: seek out partners to tackle these formidable challenges rather than trying to conquer them alone.
