Formerly owned by Waltrip Racing, 2006 Monte Carlo was a Pontiac Grand Prix before gaining its current body.Ever wanted to get into stock car racing, only to find you would need a large fortune to make a small one? While the big leagues require big bank, there are plenty of smaller leagues and vintage stock car racing events where all you need is a few thousand dollars and a car to have a chance to take the checkered flag.We were looking through the listings of the RM Sotheby’s Petersen Automotive Museum Auction, being held in Los Angeles on December 8, 2018, when we happened upon the ultimate budget race car, in the form of a 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo was owned by Waltrip Racing, and was driven by both Michael Waltrip and his older brother, Darrell Waltrip. The car actually started out as the older Waltrip’s Pontiac Grand Prix from the 1990s before being rebodied for the younger Waltrip in the 2000s.Under the hood of the Monte Carlo is a 355-cubic inch V8 built by T&L Engine Development, still wearing its pair of Pontiac Racing heads from the time it was a Grand Prix. The powerplant is paired with four-speed manual by Tex’s Transmission, which sends it to the posi-trac rear. #gallery-2 { margin: auto; } #gallery-2 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-2 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-2 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ <br style="clear: both" />
