Built, not bought

Thought I would share this article.
The author puts an interpretation on the phrase that I had not considered.
To me it's the difference between my old 4th gen and the Vette that followed. The 4th gen was definitely built by my definition, verging on hot rod. The corvette was bought. The TATA is following the built route but not according to the author.

I'm sure we all have interpretations, what are your's?

Is “Built Not Bought” Ruining The Hobby?

Yep, I'd say the 4th gen is built. Stipped down a lot of it and rebuilt it, putting your own touch to it. Its not something brought in already done like that.

Years ago around the age of 11, a guy in my class said he built a motorbike with his dad. It sounded impressive when he said it like that. They basically stripped down a factory bike, cleaned it and reassembled it, but he called it 'Built' I used to think back then what is the difference between built and re-assembled. They didn't make any parts themselves so it wasn't built, well not in my opinion. Not customised.

I think you do have great satisfaction taking things apart, upgrading parts and putting it all back together, knowing/hoping it will be an improvement. you have put your mark on it.

A friends father has 'built' old BSA motorcycles out of spare parts. They are not restored bikes, as they didn't exist originally. You can do that much more easily with bikes than with most cars though.
