Of course, the C5Z does that by smoking the tires until the rear brakes catch fire.Let’s gather ’round as a C5 Corvette Z06 puts on a smoke show for a crowd of folks filming with their cell phones. Those amateur videographers were definitely in the right place at the right time. Said burnout eventually led to a rear brake system fire. Talk about a good PSA to show why a line lock system can make a difference in protecting your brakes during a burnout. The odds are good that if you are reading this, you know how to do a burnout with a car like a Camaro or Corvette. Regardless of manual or automatic transmission, once you get the rear tires spinning, you control the throttle with your right foot while keeping the car in place by holding down the brakes with your left foot. Although the rear brakes are engaged, these cars have enough power to spin the rear wheels any way. Through, naturally, this causes increased wear (in a normal situation) to the rear brakes. That is why some people prefer to run a line lock system, allowing them to lock the front brakes during a burnout without the rear brakes being applied at the same time. Work smarter, not harder. This video shows the worst case scenario for someone doing a burnout without line lock.At first, the burnout is going well, with gobs of smoking pouring from the rear wheels while the LS6 roars, making for a cool tire smokin" video. However, 20 seconds in, we can see sparks inside of the rear wheel and a few seconds later, the rotors begin to glow. As the driver continues to smoke the tires, the entire rear braking system is glowing hot orange. When the Corvette finally stops spinning the tires, the driver learns that his rear brakes are on fire.Granted, this is an extreme worst case scenario, but this C5Z does a fine job of showing why a line lock system matters.Tags: Burnout Fridays, C5, C5 Corvette Z06, Corvette, Corvette Z06, Line Lock, LS6, Z06
