Matt Farah Drives the 1,000-Horsepower Custom Camaro and Figures Out How It Can Be ImprovedThere’s more than cheese in Wisconsin. In the town of Spring Green, Wisconsin, there’s a company called Ringbrothers that creates wild, custom, SEMA-worthy versions of classic American cars, from the Ford Mustang to the Chevrolet Camaro_Over the years, Ringbrothers has manufactured Camaro one-offs such as the green and black “Grinch,” which was based on a 1970 model, and the sharp-looking “Razor,” which had a 1969 shell with a variety of custom touches and packed a 454 crate engine under its carbon-fiber hood.Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire recently got a chance to drive Ringbrothers’ new “G-Code” Camaro (we told you about it here). In this case, “G” means 1,000 – as in 1,000 horsepower. That’s what the aggressively supercharged 416-cubic-inch LS3 under the hood cranks out.Unfortunately, Farah can’t immediately unleash all 1,000 hp during his trip through California canyons. That does give him time to discover the G-Code’s other strengths and its weaknesses, though. It’s a handsome car, given its high-end interior materials, first-generation design roots, and third-gen IROC-inspired wheels. Under that attractive exterior is a Detroit Speed chassis. However, the G-Code is not a perfect car…yet. According to Farah, it needs some tweaking. For instance, the steering setup is noticeably light and over-boosted with a giant turning radius. The brakes are light as well – at first. They bite down hard after a couple of inches of middle pedal travel. The throttle connected to that juggernaut of a motor is sensitive and eager to let everything out of the 416-cid monster.Farah eventually gets a chance to do that himself. What follows is a series of “Ooohs” and the kind of laughter that only comes after you survive a blast in a car whose output overpowers your self restraint, not to mention almost every other car out on the road.Chime in with your thoughts on the forum. >>Follow @derekshiekhiTags: 1st Gen Camaro, camaro, LS3, the smoking tire, Video
