I am sell my awesome and much admired New York cruiser. The car is a genuine 9C1 having served in the USAF in Germany from new. Several were sold on demob to a German film company and turned into NYPD cop cars. Since being imported in"97 it has had many updates and modifications. 9C1"s were Chevrolet"s cop special build cars featuring bigger brakes, better dampers and springs, thicker anti-roll bars, thicker chassis (it"s Chevy"s last separate chassis sedan), a faster steering box, positraction rear ends, bigger alternator, deleted rear door locks and window winders, deleted central locking, manual front windows and rubber flooring.
The car is now fitted with a "94 Camaro Z28 5.7 LT1 engine and matching 4L60-E auto transmission. All the engine wiring, cooling fans, cooling rads (water, oil, steering, trans), power steering plumbing were also swapped. Basically this is what Chevrolet fitted into the 94-96 LS and Impalas. This vastly improves the driveability of the car taking power from 160BHP in the old TBi 305ci to a listed 260BHP from the LT1. Fuel economy is also better now at around 20mpg on a fast motorway run. 0-60 is 7.8sec so pretty good for a 1965KG car. A new de-cat exhaust is fitted along with a 52mm throttle body, de-resonator"d air intake, stage 1 ECU, high output 140 amp alternator and battery, correct higher ratio steering box, both water temp sensors, TPS, MAF, MAS sensors, fuel pump and pressure regulator and most importantly a new optispark. The heads were removed and checked for warping and refitted with heavy duty gaskets. Also a complete new cop spec dash with calibrated speedo was fitted as the rev-counter was reading wrong. The odometer shows 184,000ish but the car has actually done 166,000 miles. The engine from the donor Camaro has done about 70,000 miles.
As for the cop equipment the car is probably one of the most accurate and comprehensively fitted out cars in the country. Everything is period correct using a...
Federal signal vector light-bar with crystal clear light domes
An extremely rare and believed to be only one outside of the US, Julian A McDermott high rise traffic system (the arms lift up and down with an electric ram and the system was unique to NYPD)
A Prosecutor traffic camera system with a VHS air conditioned bullet proof trunk recorder and rear prisoner camera
A Motorola 9100-T Computer terminal which turns on but won"t log on to police network
A Motorola ASTRO walkie talkie which bleeps when in the charger but wont hold charge due to the battery being 25years old!!!!
An MPH industries KSS Doppler radar speed detector which works
A ticket light
A set of NYPD tags for show use
An NYPD crowd control barrier
An easily removable NYPD spec push-bar
And finally a Unity Manufacturing pillar mounted search light. This wouldn"t have been fitted as well as the McDermott lights but hey, it looks great and with the rubbish elliptical US headlights you need it to see where your going at night!!!
So, why am I selling it; It"s just a case of "been there and done that" and now she is all fit, finished and up together I have decided that I want to build a later Crown Vic in either Breaking Bad or Walking Dead colour schemes. I"m not in any hurry to sell it so don"t even think about giving me a silly offer as I know how rare and valuable the car is. This is not your normal rusty tatty abused "clown car". People never believe that it is 25 years old.
The MOT is new and runs to 25 June 2017
The car is a "Q" because a few cars came over together and DVLA lost the paperwork and didn"t bother to sort it properly but the VIN numbers match and are correct.
If you want to view it the please contact me on 07970 344984 to arrange. Obviously you only drive it once you"ve bought it due to insurance so no test pilots or siren testers!!!! The car is based in Honiton, Devon
