Lot 223 Chevrolet El-Camino 396 Turbo-Jet Big Block.1967

Estimated Value : 20,000 24,000

This show quality 1967 Chevrolet El Camino was fully restored in the USA and then imported into the UK last year. This was no quick lick of paint, more top to bottom front to back and very pretty it is to.

The first thing you will notice are the crossed flags motifs on the front wings, look and you will also see 396 Turbo-Jet Yep folks this is the real deal, a 325 horse power big block Chevrolet V8 sitting under the bonnet of this beautiful pick up. The vendor has told us that apart from one exhaust manifold being date stamped 1968 and what is obvious to look at, a new air conditioning pump, every other number he can find matches the 1967 year. In fact the vehicles Vin number decodes as a SS model, very rare in a 67 model year car.

The engine itself is excellent, producing that much loved and instantly recognisable American V8 rumble, exiting through twin big bore exhausts, one each side of the truck. More than powerful enough to break the traction of the rear wheels with very little prompting from your right foot, but not silly as the rear end is held in check by a 12 bolt Posi-Traction equipped back axle (Limited Slip Diff to us) so drives both rear wheels when asked to.

Body work is excellent, very straight and obviously received a very expensive and quality respray during its restoration. All the chrome work is very good and the correct motifs and badges are in place. Nothing needed more than to continue cleaning it with quality products.

Interior is straight black throughout, vinyl and carpet, easy to look after and with no damage. The dash itself has no splits and all the correct instruments are in place. As mentioned, there is a new air conditioning pump on the car, but the air con is untested.

On the road the vendor reports it drives beautifully, it is a big truck but drives more like a car. Steering is light but does not wander and the ride is good, supple but taught, all helped by a matched set of BF Goodrich Radial TA tyres on each corner.

So if you are looking for a turn key piece of Americana that could very easily be a show winner, you might just of found it.
