This is the sensor. Still original, apart from the blue anodised bit this is just for looks replaced the black plastic that was there before.
Alot if the time it is unplugged. If the MAF isn't in use it uses the MAP sensor and the ECU works in a mode called Speed Density. So it's not essential I keep it.
However it could be nice to design it in as it seems the tube stays more accurate with temperature and altitude changes.
Can I buy a new one that is 4inch? Yes https://www.ws6project.com/user_sto...maf-sensor/?osCsid=vrj8rl8ajh8c8pmlvvm6k2rt21
$314. However it's quite a bit of money, needs ECU tuning anyway.
Is it possible to use my current one and tune? The sensor outputs a frequency depending on airflow. With a larger diameter more air is going through the tube with the same reading from the sensor. I know the tuning method, so can tune it.
The challenge is more on the physical side of things. Fragile wires inside, Ill need to remove the 3 inch plastic ring and make something to secure it in a 4 inch ring.
What are the risks? Could totally ruin the sensor/thin wires. I can drive through car without it, or buy a 4 inch one if I really want one.
As I'm making air lid part I could incorporate the MAF part.
Another task for the 3D printer.
