Handy living local to work, as can hop on the push bike for a bit of exercise and before you know it you are at work. Record is around 6mins. Probably takes me longer to get the bike out of the shed than what it does to cycle it.
My bike is pretty old now though. Will post a photos later. Put it together myself when I was at college. Brought the frame for around £480, it's an oversized tubular frame, lightweight(at the time) got the Mavic wheels built by Have Hinde for £200, then Rockshox front forks for £380 and all the running gear. I would say its still going strong, but after 23 years the chain broke on the way to work today, probably around 150 meters from work. I dont have the tool anymore to put the chain back together, but there is a local halfords that do bike repairs, so will try to nip over there in my lunch break to see what they can do,l hopefully fit a new chain and not charge the earth for it.
I could buy a new bike, but this has sentimental value, and want to keep it going for longer. I dont cycle enough to justify a new one either.
The route to work is short than car as I can cut through alleyways. It's about 1.2miles by road. 1.1ish miles by bike. I do have many options to take detours of a longer route so I can get some time on the saddle for when I get fitter. It is enjoyable. Good job I was sitting down when the chain snapped. Had the chain slip before when I was younger and certain things get crushed on the top bar, ouch!.
