Oh yes, where do I sign, you can take a leg or an arm. Mind you it would have to be auto if you take a leg, but this car is very nice indeed. :thumb:
I like the wide body to it too. Creates new lines different to the Camaro. :bounce:
I must be the only one here, but I don't like all these transmaro's. It's a Camaro with a body kit, it will never be the real deal, just a cross dresser!
Cross dressing is only for weekends. Although I would try to keep the car as a weekend car.
I know what your saying though, it will never be a thoroughbred trans-am.
Ok, but too add fuel to the fire....
The camaro and firebird have always been a shared platform, with mostly engines and minor body differences separating the two. The last true Pontiac engine was used in the 1979 4 speed cars and was left over 400ci engines. The last 455 was in 76 and came from the full size cars. The last true high performance Pontiac engine was the SD455 last seen in 74. The 301T? I suppose it was Pontiac...
Once the 3rd gen came out it was purely cosmetic, the engines were all corporate GM (aka Chevy).
So given that there hasn't really been a pure Firebird or Trans-Am from Pontiac since 1979 we would have to ignore the last 23 years of them too!
Given that the T/A had always had a huge following, and that no f-bodies have been made since 2002, and that Pontiac has been dead since 2008, I think it's a bang up job of converting a Camaro into a Firebird which is all GM allowed Pontiac to do anyway! Given the choices, a 4th gen, a Corvette or a Transmaro I'll take the Transmaro! Unfortunately the best my finances allow is the Corvette.
Yes it is/does, but it also has a very low boost turbo, because the block won't support high levels of boost, has a very poor aftermarket following, exhaust manifolds crack and are rarer than rocking horse dung, and it shares no parts with the Pontiac 350/400/455 making any serious work almost impossible.
A great engine and very innovative in its day, but would require some serious spend today to make it effective. I'd own one in a Pace car if I was going for Concours standard otherwise I wouldn't consider one at all.
You're correct about the boost, factory setting is about 8-9ish but you can easily turn up the boost yourself to 12psi and some have gone higher whilst remaining reliable. However as you said the manifolds are weak and are rare, though some have had custom ones made. A good resource is 301garage.com it will open your eyes to what can be done.
Maybe, but ? for ? a 350/400/455 will always outperform it and unless you have to run it, there is little point. And besides - I'd still rather have the TransMaro!!! :eyebrows:
