The pro touring 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in this week"s Drag Race Monday video is built for road racing and autocross, but the owner recently took this monster muscle car down the quarter mile at LS Fest West to see what it would do in a straight line.Under the hood is a Mast Motorsports LS3 worked to 427 cubic inches and is mated to some variety of manual transmission. The details also explain that this classic Camaro has a 12-bolt rear differential, adjustable shocks, Wildwood disc brakes and Falken tires. All of those things likely make for an incredible road racer, but this car was not built for the drag strip. The driver has cameras mounted facing forward and facing the Corvette in the left lane, allowing us to watch the progress of the Camaro as it heads down track, while also seeing where the other car is during the race. The Corvette hops out to a quick lead, but with the sweet sound of the worked LS3 serving as background music, the 1968 Camaro catches, passes and pulls away from the black ‘Vette. Throughout the run, the front-facing camera allows us to watch the driver bang through the gears as he ran down and beat the Corvette. In the end, we see the time slip, revealing that this pro touring 1968 Camaro turned in a respectable 12.211 at 119.3 miles per hour while the Corvette ran a balmy 13.493 at 108.12. The sound of this Camaro is a big part of this video, so make sure that you have your speakers cranked up when viewing!Tags: 1st Gen Camaro, camaro, drag race monday, LS3, Pro Touring
