This is the DS6WR, the first SUV from Citroen's posh DS brand, and one that'll take on the Land Rover Freelander, BMW X3 and the rest next year.
Earlier this week, new Peugeot-Citroen boss Carlos Tavares announced the DS line would move further from its Citroen roots to become a stand-alone brand, and the DS6WR is the first evidence of that newly granted independence.

Set for an official reveal at the Beijing show next week, it'll launch in China later this year before commencing a leisurely assault on other markets around the world.

The ‘WR' stands not for ‘Warm Regards' nor ‘Water Resistant', but ‘Wild Rubis', the name of last year's China-focused concept that previewed this production SUV.

The DS6WR stands 161cm in height and 455cm in length, making it a few centimetres longer, though a little less tall, than a Land Rover Freelander.

It's front-wheel drive only, albeit with something called ‘Grip Control' that Citroen says negates the need for four-wheel drive ‘on all types of terrain'. Polar explorers, we suspect, may beg to differ, but front-drive's fine for the most of us.

Unlike the 300bhp hybrid Wild Rubis, the production DS6WR will launch with petrol engines only: a pair of 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinders making 160bhp and 200bhp, both feeding a six-speed auto gearbox. If and when the DS6WR reaches Europe, we'd expect it to sprout a diesel or two.

And we rather do hope the DS6WR makes it to Europe, because - to our eyes at least - it's a tidy-looking SUV. Reckon it could be a hit on these shores?
