Plans to develop Rallycross cars into electric racers have been postponed until 2021, following a decision to allow manufacturers more time to develop their plans. The idea was originally discussed in June 2017, but teams will now have until March 2019 to confirm their involvement in the electric format. The new all-electric cars will be based on a carbon fibre monocoque chassis, using batteries from Williams Advanced Engineering, with a pair of 250kW motors, developed by the manufacturers. Independent teams can develop their own drivetrains and bodies to enter or use manufacturer supplied designs.
