If we let the US laws take control of the UK, even upgraded brakes on a classic car to make it safer will be come illegal.Millions of modified and classic cars could be banned from the roads as meddling European Union try to shake-up MOT rules | Daily Mail Online

Lets hope it doesn't come in, pretty much any car at car shows would be banned to be on the road. You cant even change wheels.

I heard about this a few years ago , that would mean even police vehicles would be banned ...it won't happen ...

I also heard about this a while back, in fact I even contacted my MEP about it.
The fact that it is still being discussed is concerning, and unfortunately a vote for any of the big 3 next month will just allow those w**kers in Brussells to keep coming with this BS.

Concerns about hacking into modified cars? humm, Well new Merc's have a wireless ability to let police be able to stop the car as its passing or being followed by the police. How is this the way forward, any technology the police get someone else will get, it will fall into the wrong hands. Causing accidents everywhere...

Also the person who wrote that paragraph does not know that the brake module is separate to the engine control. Most people will tweaks for speed and upgrade brakes but not touch the brake control.

Very true. GM cars have read/write ability to the PCM/ECU for engine management but AFAIK the BCM which handles ABS/Traction control etc (amongst other things) is not changeable.
I'm sure other manufacturers are similar.

When you consider just how many cars will be affected, aftermarket companies put ouf of business and specialist modifying garages closed down the impact is huge. Not too mention the cost of enforcement that the tax payer will have to payfor!
Whats up Germany? Lose two world wars so try world domination through other means?
