There are virtually infinite ways to slot various cars in the drag racing community. From full-on tube chassis racers to steel cars to naturally-aspirated/forced induction rides. But one of the more popular “divisions” of the LS community is the infamous “stock bottom end” car, or SBE for short. Most likely because the LS family of engines is so darn bulletproof, you can run some pretty amazing times without upgrading many stock internals. Just take this incredible fifth-gen Camaro as proof. The SBE LS3 powering this fifth-gen Camaro is certainly not stock up top, of course. It uses a Vortech YSi-B blower, a combination of 93-octane and methanol, and various other unknown bits to make big power. How much power? Well, good enough to break into the 9s, at least. With a set of drag radials bolted on and a 4L80E automatic, the self-built, full-weight Camaro roars its way to a 9.94 @ 144 mph to start. But he isn’t done yet. The next pass nets a faster 9.75 at nearly the same trap speed. And then, a stellar 9.64 @ 145.3 mph. Which begs the question could this be the fastest SBE fifth-gen Camaro in existence? We don’t know the answer to that question, but we certainly wouldn’t doubt it. At least for now.And while somebody else will probably top it (or maybe already has), this is still an incredible achievement. Who would have thought that we’d see something like this, with mostly stock internals, run mid-9s? The limits of what GM’s mighty LS motor can do don’t seem to have too many limits at this point. And if they’re there, we’ll find them eventually!Join the LS1tech forums today!Tags: camaro, Chevrolet, Chevy, Drag Racing, LS(, LS3, SBE, Supercharged, Video, Vortech
