Some time ago I recall having an issue on my 3rd gen where the headlight motor would keep running for some time. I remember buying new brass gears for it. I have one left in my drawer at work.
However after reading up what they are, it turned out its for the 4th Gen. I was going to put them in the for sale section, but going to keep it now as I may need it when mine fails.
What happens is there is a worm gear in the motor that mates with this goc. The motor only cuts off when enough current is sensed from the load of it coming to the end stop. However eventually the nylon gear's teeth wear, and get stripped.
So the brass gear is certainly a better idea. I took photos as I was going to sell it, but I may need it.
So if any of you do have trouble with your headlight motors on your Firebird then check out this link:- 4th Generation Headlight Fix
