Does that coal one really work?

Also if you do that to a load of coal and use it in a fire like you would normal coal I wonder what it looks like. Flames coming from clear crystal. It seems like it can't be true, but I can't say it's something I tried. And who tried dipping coal into peanut butter first? What were they trying to achieve?
