Goodbye Mopar

A little over 3 years ago, I made my first switch away from GM and bought a Mopar - the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8.
I have loved every minute of ownership, that traditional muscle car look and sound in a relatively modern package. It’s been great fun and there are no regrets - only sadness that I won’t again hear that 6.1L Hemi roar and stir that manual gearbox as I watch other cars l disappear backwards.
The trophies, the smiles (per gallon) and the comradeship of both the Challenger community and the American car scene in general.
Goodbye Chally, you will be missed.

So with that statement you stepping away from the americar scene or getting another yanktanj?????

Silly boy! Of course not. I’ve got myself a blue and cream VW Bug split screen with a 1340 single port engine. Puts out a massive 40hp and has the rear wheels set with massive amounts of camber whilst sitting on the deck and deafening everyone with a magaphone exhaust.

So you are leaving the yanktank sence and joining the vw bug scene good luck dont hurry back to the yanktanks lol.

Nice, looks great.

Whats the main difference? is it just a bit newer but still the same model?

A few differences. The front grill and rear lights are different, modelled around the original 71 Challenger whereas my black one was modelled around the original 70 Challenger.
Vastly improved electronics, with the 8.4” screen controlling everything.
485hp 6.4L vs my old ones 425hp 6.1L
Auto vs manual
Electric variable power steering vs standard hydraulic
Suspension is the same, brakes are the same.
I was looking at a 2015+ SRT but was put off by the cost of brakes. The SRT’s have two piece rotors on the front with 6 piston clampers. Replacement front rotors are £2k a pair from dodge and only one aftermarket company makes them and they are still £1k a pair!!!
I never found the Brembos on my old black SRT wanting and the new car has the same brakes.
The major difference is the cylinder shut down tech. When you are cruising it can shut down 4 cylinders. You can’t tell/hear when it does it but the fuel economy is excellent. I used 1/3 tank getting up to Manchester and less than a 1/4 getting back.
It feels astonishingly quick to me right now. The extra ponies and a fantastic gearbox that is always on the right gear it seems.

Happy boy!
