If you re of a certain age you already know what this is. If you don t, well it s going to be hard to explain Starsky and Hutch and the significance of this Ford Gran Torino to you but perhaps you remember the Starsky and Hutch movie a few years ago where such a car was featured prominently. Either way this is an icon of 70"s television but underneath it s also a powerful, luxurious and really fun car to drive. A quick Google search will tell you about one of the most famous TV and movie cars of all and although the TV cars were 74 to 76 models this 73 Gran Torino is all but the same in appearance. However the details on this one are even more impressive. It s not just a movie prop but a purpose built performance car built by a fan and quite honestly if you have a Gran Torino coupe this is the best way to make it look awesome. Bright red is fine, but the iconic white stripe slims it down and gives it a very aggressive look that s the exact opposite of subtle. Finish quality is a lot better than a movie prop too with great bodywork on top of a clean original car and the bright red paint is deep and shiny. Up close, you ll also note that the white stripe has been outlined in black to really give it some contrast. Big chrome bumpers look big enough to use as battering rams (which is what they often did on TV) and you have to admit that this big brute does look imposing hammering down the road. And just like the T.V car it sounds spectacular!<br />

The 351 Cleveland has had performance upgrades with the fitting of alloy heads, Edelbrock 4 barrel Carburetor, Edelbrock Inlet manifold, Edelbrock chrome rocker covers and air cleaner, Hedman Headers, Flow-Master dual exhaust system, MSD Distributor and Jacob Pro-Street High Performance Ignition Pack. Factory A/C, Power Steering, front Power Disc Brakes, electric windows and Alpine high output sound system.<br />

The transmission has been changed out for a rugged C6 floor shift 3 speed automatic fitted with a big Hurst T-handle shifter. Dark tan newly recovered bench seats with matching trim and carpets, original dash, gauges and steering wheel complete the interior while slot mag style chrome wheels fitted with Daytona raised white letter tyres give the exterior its finishing touch.<br />

Imported from California in 2012 and until last year this this particular Gran Torino has been used by a company for special events such as prom nights and weddings and has been seen at many car shows last year. Expect a few stone chips to the paint but apart from that it s in great condition, with clean and original floor pans and straight paneling. Supplied with an MOT until 26/11/2015 and as it is tax exempt 12 months free road tax, specialist engine tune and healthy test report. The car is fitted with tinted window film and the vector stripe is applied in vinyl, both of which can be removed if required leaving you with a standard looking Gran Torino.<br />

These cars were extremely popular back in the day and not many have survived. If you like the show, the movie, or just the car, this is a no-disappointments performance Torino that s a blast to drive. Time to get that chunky knit cardigan out of the wardrobe!<br />
