Get ready for your new estate car hero. Potentially, anyway. Jaguar has confirmed that it will reveal a new XF Sportbrake in 2017.Speaking at last week"s Paris motor show, company bosses confirmed that the second-generation, all-new Sportbrake will be ready next year, and will be "just as handsome and practical as the previous one". Good. The previous one of course, was indeed a looker, and a fine thing to drive. This new one will sit on the same platform as the recently refreshed XF - and, therefore, the new XE - using Jaguar"s fancy, lighter aluminium base to good effect, likely cutting weight over the last car.Engines? There will be some, a range of petrol and diesel variants offering up many power and torque options. Naturally, the one you"re most looking forward to will be a snarling, supercharged V8 with a few choice letters on the back.Though the hottest XF saloon you can currently buy is the 380bhp V6, Top Gear is sincerely hoping the new Sportbrake gets the full SVR treatment, replete with the noise and power to sit comfortably in a very interesting corner of Planet Car. We"re looking at you, Mercedes-AMG and Audi RS.More news as we have it. For now, indulge yourself in the image above, and let us know whether a pretty, fast Jaguar estate is your kind of pretty, fast estate.Share this page: FacebookTwitterGoogle+WhatsAppMailtoCopy link
