TruckTrend and Diesel Power Magazine, subsidiaries of MotorTrend, have brought back the Diesel Power Challenge for 2016. Diesel Power Challenge brings together 8 competitors, selected by readers, to compete in a series of challenges to show who can put together the best diesel-powered rig. This year has the typical entrants from Chevy/GMC, Ford and Dodge/Ram, but each truck seems to bring a unique powertrain setup to the mix. There are single-turbo inline-6 powered Cummins trucks, single turbo V8 engines, and a bevy of various compound-charged, twin and triple-turbocharged motors.Going beyond the introductions to the drivers and their rigs, first up in the competition is the dyno challenge. Competitors throw down on the dyno to see who is putting out the most horsepower and torque, measured in a combined figure. With disel power, you can expect big torque numbers, and today is no different. We won’t spoil the results, but only one competitor puts down less than four figures in the torque department. Whether it comes purely through boost and fueling, or a big dollop of the giggle gas, none of these trucks seem too deterred by the massive altitude-related tuning challenges presented by ATS Disel Performance’s dyno in mile-high Colorado.Watch the madness unfold here:
