Videogamers from the 1980s, this one's for you. There is a Hungarian animator who goes by the name of Balazs Kalocsai, and you owe him your allegiance.
Chiefly because Balazs Kalocsai runs a YouTube channel called ‘Majami Hiroz' (pronounced Miami Heroes) and has just released a new video detailing what Grand Theft Auto 5 would look like had it been released in the 1980s on a Commodore 64.
It is, in short, pixelated magnificence.
Gone are the lavish, pixel-perfect high-definition visuals we're used to, and in its place comes proper 8-bit misery. But in a retro way, it's actually excellent. Of course, the sheer volume of game data required to run GTA 5 on a Commodore 64 would require you to load tapes from now until THE END OF TIME. Yes, tapes. Hands up who remembers having to do this?
Just imagine the driving sequences. And how miserable they would inevitably be. And how you wouldn't even be able to save your game. In a way, we should be thankful for the technological revolution that will eventually enslave us.
