A new era has begun for Aston Martin following the completion of their first ever turbocharged engine; the 600bhp, 5.2-litre V12 that will provide the heartbeat within the soon-to-be-delivered DB11.Based at their Engine Plant in Cologne, a single technician will build each unit in its entirety in just eight hours, and Aston say they will be capable of producing 8,000 engines every year."To see this new engine go into full production at AMEP makes me very proud," said Chief Engineer Brian Fitzsimons. "Designing and developing the 5.2L twin-turbo power plant has been an all-consuming passion for me and my team."It"s a hugely exciting time to be an engineer at Aston Martin, not least because this is just the beginning for the new twin-turbo V12."Deliveries of the DB11 are due to begin in the final quarter of 2016, and for the sizeable outlay of 154,900 customers will receive the most powerful DB model Aston has ever made. The engine is capable of producing 600bhp and 516lb ft of torque, will do 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds and will have a top speed of 200mph.President and CEO Andy Palmer, who quite literally signed off Job 1" of the new engine, said: "To have the ability to design and then manufacture our own high-performance engines in-house is something very special. It gives us ultimate control of quality and that all-important character for which Aston Martin cars are renowned."I have no doubts that our new twin-turbo V12 is the start of an even greater era of success."Click on to see the beginning of the end for naturally-aspirated Astons. Sniff.
