DS Techeetah"s Jean-Eric Vergne has won the 2018/19 Formula E world championship after finishing seventh in the final race of the season, becoming the sport"s first ever two-time champion since its inception in 2014. After the first of the weekend"s two races in New York, four drivers were still in with a chance of winning the driver"s title. However, after Sebastien Buemi missed out on the three points on offer for pole position, his slim chance had slipped away. That left Vergne, who secured his first title last season, 22 points ahead of his closest rival Lucas di Grassi of Audi Sport ABT and 25 points ahead of Jaguar driver Mitch Evans who realistically would have needed a miracle to clinch the title.
