Though the battle for the 2014 Formula One driver's championship was the talking point of the weekend, for British fans, it was tinged with sadness. Jenson Button, responding to rumours he's on his way out next year, said: "I'm not ready to stop racing."
He's got some high-level support, too. "Hopefully he will stay," says Alonso - the man rumoured to take his position at McLaren next year. "People like him are good for our sport."
And his old McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton said: "Jenson is better than most drivers here. It's not that McLaren need a better driver. They need a better car."
So, allow us to present a better car. It's Jenson Button's 2004 BAR Honda Formula One motor, here available for sale for the very reasonable price of just £60,000. Yep, sixty grand for a Formula One car.
Admittedly, there is quite a big caveat attached to this sale. Erm, it comes without the ‘Honda' bit of the BAR Honda. There's no engine. The sellers - F1 memorabilia outlet ‘Memento Exclusives' - assure us that a JUDD or Cosworth engine can be professionally fitted, along with the related electronics, cooling and oil systems.
This car, chassis number 060/002, helped Button to his first ever podium position in Formula One, and finish 3rd overall in the 2004 driver's championship. It's a complete rolling chassis with all the original wishbones, push rods, drive shafts, late spec aero and bodywork.
In short, it's a mint piece of JB's racing career, costing less than a base-spec Nissan GT-R. Just remember to pack that engine.
