This pair of races between a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS and a 2018 Ford Mustang GT was originally posted to the Kill Stories section by forum member UltraZLS1. Both clips come from the Los Racing YouTube channel. The video quality is not great; this footage was clearly captured by someone shooting with a cell phone through dark, tinted windows, so we cant see much more than the lights of the Mustang. Fortunately, being able to see the lights is just enough to observe the outcome of the race. However, because the video is so dark, we used a stock Ford image of the new Mustang. The combatantsThe 2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS and the 2018 Ford Mustang GT in the videos here are both completely stock. The Chevy has 455 horsepower, 455lb-ft of torque and the 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2018 Mustang has 460 horsepower, 420lb-ft of torque and the new 10-speed automatic transmission, similar to the one used in the current Camaro ZL1.So the Mustang has a little more horsepower, but quite a bit less torque. However it has a much more aggressively-geared automatic transmission, and both cars are in the area of 3,700lbs. It should be a close race. That means the real question here is: how good is that 10-speed transmission really? The racesIn the first video (above), the new Camaro and new Mustang go from a dig. The Mustang hops out to a small early lead, getting far enough ahead that we can see the taillights through the dark windows, but as speeds climb, the Camaro pulls past the Mustang for the win. Before the Chevy driver lifts, he is far enough ahead of the Mustang that we can see the redesigned 2018 headlights of the Ford.In the second race (below), the two go from a roll, with the Mustang jumping the gun on the first run. Once they finally get off to a clean start, we can see the taillights of the Ford disappear and the headlights appear as the Camaro puts the Mustang at the rear wheel and keeps him there.
