What happens when you pit a Koenigsegg One:1 against a tuned Porsche 911 on a really long stretch of tarmac? That"s the experiment that unfolded at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground on Saturday, as two teams battled to set a new top speed record at a Vmax200 event over the weekend. In the hands of Oli Webb, a World Endurance Championship driver for ByKolles Racing in the LMP1 category, the BHP Project"s 4,000,000+ Koenigsegg beat the old record of 229mph, before the rival Porsche edged ahead with an effort of 231mph.At that point the heavens opened and it looked like all was lost. Luckily for the One:1, conditions improved enough for it to hit 240mph before the end of the day. Meaning a new benchmark for the fastest car to have ever travelled at Bruntingthorpe.
