Hi, and welcome to this advert for my wonderful Lincoln Town Car.<br />
Where to start? I ve owned this car for over a year and a half, and if I didn t have to, I would most certainly not be putting it up for sale. Over the last 18 years I have owned approximately 60 cars, I m a bit of an enthusiast! The cars I ve owned are all very different, but have one thing in common; they ve all been interesting . This, of course, is subjective! They ve all been interesting to me at least! <br />
The thing is, I tend to get itchy feet at around the 10-12th month of ownership (not exclusively, maths fans) and begin to look for something else. The Lincoln, however, hasn t had me looking over the fence! In fact, if it wasn t down to my current life situation, I wouldn t be writing this advert! Our first baby is due for landing in T-minus 3 weeks.. I ve tried all I can to get a baby seat to fit in the Lincoln, and somewhat astonishingly (considering its aircraft-carrier dimensions) it just won t go in. This is due to a few things. In case you re wondering: the belts aren t long enough to wrap around the baby seat, and an isofix base won t clip in, as the webbing protrudes through the base and hits the babyseat. Believe me, I ve tried everything! <br />
And so, I d better write the advert and get to the point.<br />
It s a 1991 Lincoln Town Car Signature Series. If you re unfamiliar with this model, as I was when I bought it, let me (and Wikipedia..) offer you some insight.<br />
The Lincoln Towncar is a flagship luxury car. This model is the second-generation Towncar. It was an overwhelming sales success, and became one of the best-selling full-size U.S. luxury sedans. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Town Car sales regularly exceeded 100,000 units, with 120,121 Town Cars being sold in 1994 alone. Following the 1996 discontinuation of the Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, by General Motors, the Lincoln Town Car became the longest regular-production sedan sold in the United States. The vehicle was so widely received that it was named the 1990 Motor Trend Car of the Year. It is based on the venerable Panther chassis, the same chassis that the Crown Victoria is based on, and is powered by a 4.6 litre Modular V8.<br />

I use my Town Car every day, and I m still using it now. I ll use it every day until someone comes and buys it from me. <br />
How can I use a 2 tonne, 4.6 litre, V8 American car as my daily driver? , I hear you all exclaim in unison It s been converted to run on LPG. And not just any old spray it into the intake and hope it holds out conversion. It s running a sophisticated multi-point LPG system, that is fully certified for safety (certificate included) and cost an awful lot to fit. Luckily, it wasn t me that fitted it! The original receipt is included in the sale, for you to spit your tea out over. The system is automatic; it starts on petrol and after approximately 2-3 minutes it changes over to LPG. There is a discreet LED gauge on the dashboard that lets you know how much LPG is left in the tank, and when it is completely empty, it beeps at you and automatically changes over. <br />
It has self-levelling air suspension. There is a compressor under the bonnet, and airbags at the rear. If the load is lower than normal, it pumps the car up. This keeps handling characteristics consistent, regardless of load. The amount you can fit in this car is astronomical, it has been unbelievably useful! The air suspension is key to one of the best things about this car.. the ride! It is literally like driving about on a waterbed. It is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most comfortable car I ve ever been in. The handling, however, belies it s ridiculous size and weight. You can hang it on a long corner, even in the wet, and the rear tyres don t break loose. Another key reason that this car is so comfortable is the interior. It has fully electric split bench seats, that are massively over-stuffed. <br />
I feel that I m waffling here, so I ll try to be more concise. <br />
This Lincoln was exported to Saudi Arabia back in the day, and was owned by a VIP out there. When the owner had to move to the UK, he couldn t bear to part with it, and so brought it with him. I believe that he owned it for a long time, and converted it to run on LPG. I bought the car from an American car enthusiast who acquired the car from him.<br />
Now, onto the condition.<br />
The paintwork is generally in good condition, with only a few scratches and marks. It polished up to a deep shine and really looks the part. The tyres are all in good condition. Everything works! The heater is incredibly hot, and it doesn t suffer from the common heat-blend door fault. The A/C is ice-cold. The heated mirrors and screen work quickly and effectively. The interior is in excellent condition, the leather is still soft and the carpets are still very plush. There is no rust in any of the panels. The suspension is in excellent condition and the compressor was replaced just prior to my ownership. The brakes stop the car quickly and in a straight line, and the car tracks very straight. The climate control works perfectly. It s fitted with auto-dip headlights, and this feature works perfectly, too. The wipers slip discretely out of view when turned off. The car is fully loaded! I ve fitted a Bluetooth headunit, along with a 600w amplifier and powerful rear speakers.. I will, however, be removing these but I ll leave in the wiring kit. This took a long time to fit, as the interior panels needed removing and a power cable needed routing through the bulkhead to the battery etc.. I m going to leave the full installation kit fitted to the car, as well as supply a functioning headunit. All you ll need to do is attach an amplifier to the cabling, if you so wish. <br />
In my ownership I have replaced some suspension arms, re-greased every union, had the wheels fully laser aligned, fitted a new brake switch, fitted a new shifting column, repaired the common light switch fault, replaced the wiper motor, replaced the plugs and leads, fixed the common EGR channel fault, replaced the glovebox lid, fitted wider rear wheels, and collected a big haul of spare parts from a stricken limousine that was headed for the track! I ve got spare mirrors, interior switches, light units, a full set of chrome arch trims in excellent condition, spare emblems . all sorts! And of course, I have the original rear wheels in excellent condition.<br />
It s been used for 2 weddings in my ownership, and has gone down an absolute treat!<br />
It s an old car, 25 years old to be precise, and as such wears some patina. Having lived in very hot countries, some of the paint has flaked. There is a patch at the back of the bonnet, and some flaking around the boot lock and leading edge of the bonnet. The rare carriage top is in generally good condition, but the edging has worn on the some of the panels. The front bumper is quite marked, the rear bumper has a few marks too. In top gear, there is a very light and occasional miss. There is a 20p sized crack on the top of the dash. The rear nearside electric window doesn t work. There is a crack in the plastic air pipe; but this is fully taped up. All of the electric seat controls work perfectly, but the driver s controls are a little lower than they should be. The LPG system confuses the computer, which results in the check engine light coming on when at constant cruising speeds, it turns off as soon as the speed tails off. Since fitting the wide wheels at the back there is a very slight vibration at about 50mph, which is down to the balancing of the rear wheels. On the original wheels it is as smooth as butter. If you want that it d be easy enough to sort as I ve used the same tyres! Just get someone to swap the tyres over to the original wheels and away you go. I only mention this as I spent a lot of time and money getting the car to track straight and drive perfectly smoothly, only to slightly hinder this by fitting the wider wheels! <br />
<br />
The car has X month s MoT, and is currently showing 150 000 miles. The Modular V8 fitted to this car is exceptionally torquey (the same torque levels as a TVR Cerbera) but is comparatively low powered (approximately 210bhp). This is to extend its useable life, and ensure it is unstressed. The same motor is used in Mustangs of the era, under much more stressed conditions! It isn t unheard of for these Town Cars to record upwards of 500 000 miles on original internals. <br />
Please accept my apologies for the rambling nature of this advert, as you can tell, I feel the car is special and deserves more of my time! <br />
To sum up:<br />
This is a fantastically practical classic American car, that can be used as a daily driver, or even hired out for weddings. It returns the equivalent of 30mpg (combined driving) and costs around 130 to insure for a year. <br />
Viewing is recommended, I will be able to take you for a drive in the Town Car, as it is fully road legal and is currently my daily driver. <br />
Disclaimer: If you don t like attention, this isn t the car for you! If you don t like accepting compliments on a daily basis, this isn t the car for you! I m going to miss this thing!<br />
