Tuner Novitec Rosso has been busy of late. Two months ago it showcased a tuned version of Ferrari"s 488 GTB; a car that hardly wanted for power, performance and sheer speed. Now comes the convertible version of said Ferrari. Welcome, everyone, to the Novitec Rosso Ferrari 488 Spider, and all of its many tuned horses.762bhp, to be precise, thanks to a performance upgrade for Ferrari"s 3.9-litre turbocharged V8. Well, not the V8 block itself, because that remains as per Maranello"s blueprint. What NR has done is develop two special control modules (selectable via the manettino switch) that feed the ECU with new mapping for the injection and ignition phases, while also boosting peak, um, boost. There"s also a new exhaust system (available with electronic sound management"), and an optional exhaust made from Inconel, the latter proving lighter. This tweak of the ECU means an extra 101bhp over the standard 488"s 661bhp, and torque of 658lb ft (that"s 97lb ft more). Acceleration? There is some. It"ll now do 0-62mph in a claimed 2.8s (0.2s quicker) and top out at 213mph (11mph more).Let us now talk about carbon fibre. There"s a new spoiler lip, air intake surround, side flaps and rocker panels all constructed from the stuff. And carbon mirrors. Also, the rear spoiler lip is carbon fibre. And there"s the option of a carbon fibre rear wing. You also get carbon surrounds for the rear lights. The wheels are 21in, though you can option three-piece wheels in a staggered 21/22in combo.NR has also adapted the suspension, so at the push of a button, you can raise the front of the car by 40mm, to get over those pesky kerbs or parking ramps. At speeds of over 50mph, this automatically drops. As for the insides, go wild. NR will deck the interior in any colour or material - including leather and Alcantara - as your heart, taste and wallet see fit. Price, no doubt, is upon application. So, is it a worthy addition to the world of performance motoring, or is a plain, 661bhp 488 Spider fresh from Maranello enough for your needs?
