We"ve already seen one McLaren that will be hooning up Goodwood hill this weekend, namely the crackers P1 LM. Now meet another, the slightly saner but still rather exciting 570S Sprint.It immediately becomes the most focused version of McLaren"s diddliest range, the Sports Series. It"s basically the non-racecar version of the 570S GT4 racer. Wondering what the point of that is? A very serious track toy, and a bargain alternative to the P1 GTR.Yeah, we said bargain. A 148,000 starting point may be beyond the realms of most budgets (not least ours), but when the P1 GTR costs nearly 2million, a car with much of its DNA for 7.4 per cent of the price has got to appeal.DNA such as a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, carbon tub and tons of clever aerodynamic kit. Much of the 570S Sprint"s aero addenda is shared with its GT4 cousin, and should you outgrow trackdays and wish to take it racing, a compliance pack" is available so you can upgrade. Lovely.As standard, though, there"s plenty of serious, FIA-approved kit, seat, rollcage and fire extinguisher included. You can even spec a passenger seat if you"ve a friend whose intestinal integrity you wish to test out.The suspension comes from the wonderfully sprung 570S road car, and you can add an air jacking system if you want super-speedy tyre changes during your big-dollar trackdays. As standard you get Pirelli racing slicks, wrapped around centre-locking magnesium wheels.Your 148k buys you a basic Sprint painted orange, but you can have all the colours of the 570S road car palette as well as a range of McLaren Special Operations liveries.
