MG has launched a new campaign which it hopes will incentivise the uptake of electrified vehicles. Between now and 26 April, anyone who test drives the MG ZS EV, MG 5 EV or MG HS Plug-in Hybrid will get £750 off the price of those cars.

MG’s latest deal is in addition to the government’s £2,500 grant for electric vehicles. That means the starting prices of the pure-electric MG ZS and MG 5 are further trimmed back to £25,345 and £24,345 respectively.

The HS Plug-in Hybrid isn’t eligible for the government discount, but MG’s new scheme temporarily lowers its starting price from £30,095 to £29,345.

Over the past few years, the reborn British brand has positioned itself as a retailer of affordable electric vehicles, undercutting the likes of Nissan and Volkswagen. Launched in 2018, the ZS EV was MG’s first attempt, offering a 141bhp electric motor mounted on the front axle and a 44.5kWh battery pack for a claimed range of 163 miles on a full charge.

Standard equipment for the entry-level Excite specification includes 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, a leather steering wheel and an eight-inch infotainment system.

The MG 5 EV was updated earlier this year. It now has a more powerful 184bhp electric motor and a larger 52.5kWh battery pack. The upgrades brought an extra 30 miles of range, allowing the estate to cover 249 miles between recharging.

The HS PHEV is the largest vehicle in MG’s current line-up. It features a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, a 16.6kWh battery pack and a 121bhp electric motor. Combined, the system produces 254bhp, and MG says it can cover 32 miles on electric power alone.

MG’s Commercial Director, Guy Pigounakis, said: “We know there are a lot of people who have been waiting for dealerships to reopen so they can take a proper test drive before ordering a new car, especially those who are considering an EV but want to make sure it’s right for them before committing.

“At MG we want to make EVs as affordable as possible for everyone, so for anyone who takes a test drive in one of our electric or plug-in models between now and April 26 we’re giving them a further incentive in the form of a £750 thank you.”

Is MG’s new incentive enough to get you behind the wheel of an EV? Let us know in the comments below…

It's awesome to see companies taking steps to make eco-friendly options more accessible. Reminds me of when I was looking for discounts on car accessories. I stumbled upon some great deals using couponing apps. It's amazing how much you can save with just a few taps. With the MG campaign and the government grant, it's a great time to go electric.
