Last week we showed you a first glimpse of the Kia GT4 Stinger, a 315bhp, rear-drive sports car concept made by that Korean car company that once encapsulated the dictionary definition of 'boring'.
And now, in the run-up to the Stinger's unveiling at the Detroit motor show, the Korean behemoth has released another very tempting teaser shot. Taken from above, it shows a very sporty, yet curvaceous, bodyline and some F-type-esque bonnet vents.
Eye-catching , isn't it?
There's a little more info, too. We're informed that the 2+2 concept's 20-inch semi-carbon wheels will be wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tyres and secured with aluminium centre-locks. Very sporty. Hiding behind these big wheels will be Brembo Gran Tourismo two-piece cross-drilled rotors, complete with four-piston calipers. The Stinger gets a custom chassis and will ride on proper, grown-up independent double wishbone suspension. All most promising.
Up front will lurk the same 315bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine we told you about last week. But now we know it'll be connected to a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission feeding power to the rear wheels.
Wait a minute. Rear-wheel-drive, plenty of power and a manual gearbox. That's Top Gear's Holy Trinity ticked off. Consider us very, very interested.
Kia still won't admit at this stage if there's any chance of the GT4 Stinger making production. Even a year ago, the possibility of Kia building a proper sports car was near unthinkable, but after the success of its Pro_cee'd GT hot hatch, anything's possible.
We'll see the ‘Ignition Yellow' paint-clad concept in the flesh for ourselves next week. Here's hoping its looks match the promise, as this has potential to be brilliant...
