Back in 2007, Ferrari launched its guarded Special Projects programme with the intention of giving wealthy customers a facility to personalise their cars and distinguish them from other models on the road. Imagine a bespoke tailor, but one who deals in carbon fibre rather than tweed. This week we were treated to a glimpse of the 458 MM Speciale: the division"s latest creation based on the, um, basic Speciale with the stripped-out chassis and 4.5-litre V8 engine.Traditionally SP"s modifications are merely aesthetic, and the innards under the bonnet are left unaltered. This isn"t a trend bucked by the 458 MM, although the alterations made to the aerodynamics do represent a technical leap forward as well as a visual one.Beyond that, changes that aren"t visible from the outside are anyone"s guess. Such is Ferrari"s commitment to discretion, it retains first refusal on buying back SP models from customers in order to keep them away from nosey parkers in the motoring world.Only a handful of Special Projects" one-offs have ever been made public: for all we know there could be dozens hidden away in garages across the globe. Here then, are some more top-secret one-offs that we know are real
