More than 3,000 people have already placed orders for the brand new Aston Martin DB11, the company has confirmed. And as it officially goes into production today, we"re also told that AM boss Dr Andy Palmer will "personally assure the quality by inspecting the first 1,000 cars". Expect him to be quite busy. But then of course, it"s a busy time for Aston in general. The DB11 marks the start of AM"s second century plan"; the DB11 is the first of seven new cars to be launched over the next seven years, which will also include a new Vantage, Vanquish, a DBX crossover (built in a new factory in Wales) and of course, the rather delectable AM-RB001 hypercar. So what about that DB11, then? It"s got a completely new, stiffer bonded aluminium chassis, a brand new twin-turbo, 5.2-litre V12 packing a clean 600bhp, and new electronic architecture supplied by Mercedes-Benz. It"s also quite fast: 0-62mph takes just 3.9s, and it"ll rock onto a top speed of 200mph.The first UK cars - all hand-built of course - are set to be delivered in October. Dr Palmer said: "It"s an exciting moment for the entire company when the first car of a new model goes into production. The DB11 is a special car and it heralds the start of a new and exciting era for Aston Martin."Want to see what all the fuss is about? We took the DB11 across Europe.
