This is the Citroen C1 “Urban Ride.” It’s the new entry-level version of the French firm’s popular city car, which replaces the Sense specification at the lower end of the line-up. It’ll go on sale in the UK this May, with prices starting from £12,815.

The Urban Ride features a few styling tweaks over the old base-model C1. Buyers get new 15-inch wheel trims, flared wheel arch extensions and rear privacy glass, along with a decent level of standard safety equipment, such as hill start assist, emergency braking assist and curtain airbags.

Buyers get a “Nude” paint finish as standard, although Scarlet Red, Ural White, Calvi Blue and Caldera Black are available as optional extras. Citroen also offers a contrasting black roof as a further option.

Inside, there’s a leather steering wheel and gear knob, while the C1’s seats are trimmed, rather appropriately considering the car’s nameplate, in Metropolitan Grey fabric upholstery. Buyers also get a seven-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Like the current Sense model, the new Citroen C1 Urban Ride is only available with a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which develops 71bhp. The engine sends drive to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. No automatic option is offered.

The unit has a leisurely 0–62mph time of 14 seconds but, more importantly, it conforms to the latest Euro 6d emissions standard, with a claimed CO2 figure of 109g/km. Citroen is yet to confirm the new trim-level’s official fuel economy but, like the old model, we’re expecting a figure upwards of 55mpg.

The second-generation C1 has proved to be a particularly popular model for Citroen, with 175,000 examples sold since its launch in 2014. However, Citroen owner Stellantis has already confirmed that the city car won’t make it to another generation, due to more stringent emissions regulations and tightening margins in the city car class.
