Peugeot’s popular 3008 SUV will soon receive a mid-life facelift, according to these leaked official images of the firm’s updated Skoda Karoq rival.

Posted on a French Peugeot fan forum, the facelifted 3008 looks set to follow the design trend set by newer models in the firm’s line-up with evolutionary tweaks echoing the looks of the 208 supermini, the 508 saloon and the smaller 2008 crossover.

The most obvious visual change is the addition of the ‘fang’ style LED running lights, which will be applied on GT Line versions of the new 3008. They’re incorporated with new look LED headlights and a larger grille, while the lower section of the front bumper gets new look vents.

A new aerodynamic wheel design appears too, but elsewhere, the facelifted 3008 remains almost completely unchanged. The tailgate design does not feature any obvious alterations, and leaked images of the interior confirm only an apparently larger central infotainment display.

Updates elsewhere will major on technology. As is often the case with facelifts, driver assistance features will be updated to parent company PSA’s latest standards, and the 3008 could receive the 3D effect digital instrumentation introduced on the newer 208 and 2008 models.

The engine line-up is unlikely to alter drastically, sticking to proven PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel units. But Peugeot could look to introduce a second plug-in hybrid variant with front-wheel-drive only and 222bhp to complement the 296bhp all-wheel-drive Hybrid4 model.

While the facelifted 3008 will probably emerge in an official capacity later this year, we already know of Peugeot’s plans for the next-generation model, to be revealed in 2023. The 3008 will morph into a coupe-SUV, with fully-electric power an option for the first time by way of a brand new PSA platform called eVMP. A range of up to 404 miles on a single charge may be possible with the new underpinnings.
