The new Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Coupe has been unveiled at this year’s Salon Prive. It follows up the recently launched Continental GT Mulliner Convertible – and it’s fitted with a similar range of unique styling touches. Order books are due to open in October, with first deliveries arriving next year.

Cosmetic tweaks over the standard Bentley Continental GT include a set of unique 22-inch alloy wheels, a new mesh radiator grille, Mulliner-branded puddle lighting and fresh satin silver door mirrors. As an added touch, the centre cap for each alloy wheel is self-levelling – meaning the Bentley emblem remains upright at all times.

Inside, Mulliner’s revisions are more extensive. The coachbuilding firm has fitted new floor mats, a new leather headliner, a diamond-milled centre console with a unique Breitling clock, and fresh diamond quilted leather upholstery in a choice of eight colours. Finally, buyers can select their preferred dashboard finish from a range of 88 veneers.

Bentley’s very keen to stress the amount of work which goes into each Continental GT Mulliner; the company says that the quilting on the car’s interior is made up of almost 400,000 stitches – and designing the process alone took a painstaking 18 months.

Unlike most modern luxury cars, the GT Mulliner’s burr walnut veneer is also applied manually before being hand sanded, polished and painted to the buyer’s preference – as mechanical means of finishing weren’t deemed accurate enough.

Like the standard Bentley Continental GT, the Mulliner edition is available with either the company’s flagship twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 or its entry-level 4.0-litre V8. The former has an output of 626bhp and 900Nm of torque, which is enough for a 0–62mph time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 207mph.

The V8 is related to the unit that powers the Porsche Panamera. Here, it develops 542bhp and 770Nm of torque – which translates into a 0–62mph time of four seconds flat and a top speed of 198mph. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive system.
