SEAT has confirmed that a mid-life facelift is on the way for the Ibiza supermini. The re-worked car will be revealed on 15 April alongside an updated version of its small SUV counterpart: the Arona.

The Ibiza facelift comes at a time of flux in Europe’s supermini sector. The ever-popular Ford Fiesta is due to go under the knife this year too, as is the Ibiza’s closest relation, the Volkswagen Polo. Fellow VW Group brand Skoda will reveal an all-new Fabia in 2021 as well.

Our spies have not caught the updated Ibiza on camera, but judging by the updates heading the way of the Arona, it will be a mild visual overhaul. Described by SEAT as an “evolved design” it will probably extend to new headlight and grille treatment at the front, plus a redesigned front bumper.

A teaser image issued by SEAT shows the rear of the updated hatchback alongside the new face of the Arona SUV. The only obvious change here appears to be new Ibiza badging that sees a switch to the handwritten style font used on the latest SEAT models.

Alongside the minor exterior design changes, the brand says that the Ibiza will benefit from “significant technological upgrades”. SEAT says that there will be increased digital functionality, which points to updated infotainment software being a key aspect of the Ibiza’s mid-life refresh.

The brand also says that it has targeted an improvement in the level of perceived quality in the cabin, possibly pointing towards the use of new, more upmarket interior materials.
