Hyundai has launched a new N Line version of its newest SUV, the fourth-generation Tucson, which introduces a few sporty touches to the brand’s new Volkswagen Tiguan rival
Cosmetic tweaks over normal versions of the new Tucson include a set of 19-inch alloy wheels, a new front splitter, a lower rear diffuser and a twin-exit exhaust system. Buyers also get a new slightly larger tailgate spoiler, a unique radiator grille and an exclusive Shadow Grey paint finish, which can be optionally specced with contrasting black roof.
Inside, the sporty Tucson gets the usual range of Hyundai N Line upgrades. There’s a N-branded steering wheel, a new gear knob and black headlining – as well as a pair of N Line sports seats, trimmed in black suede and leather. The cabin makeover is completed with a set of aluminium pedals and unique treadplates.
The Tucson N Line comes with Hyundai’s latest 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment system, both featuring unique N Line graphics to match the car’s badging. Three-zone climate control is another standard feature, along with heated front and rear seats.

Buyers have their choice of four powertrains, all of which are based on Hyundai’s turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
The entry-level unit has an output of 148bhp and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Mid-range models come with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance and buyers can choose from two outputs – a 148bhp option or a more powerful 178bhp unit. Both come as standard with Hyundai’s new Intelligent Manual Transmission system, which uses a 48-volt electrical linkage for the clutch.
There’s also a hybrid model. Here, the 1.6-litre petrol engine is supported by a 59bhp electric motor and 1.49kWh battery, which sees performance rise to 227bhp and 350Nm of torque. The powertrain comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

Finally, at the top of the range, there’s a plug-in hybrid model. It comes with a 90bhp electric motor and a larger 13.8kWh battery pack – enough for an output of 261bhp and 350Nm of torque. Hyundai also says the PHEV Tucson should be capable of travelling around 31 miles on electric power alone.
In-keeping with the Tucson N Line’s sporty brief, Hyundai also offers the SUV with adaptive dampers. The company says the upgraded suspension better controls the car’s weight and can automatically compensate for heavy acceleration and braking as well as changes to the road surface.
UK prices and specifications for the new Tucson N Line have not been revealed, ahead of it arriving in British Hyundai showrooms this summer.
