Four-hundred and fifty five horsepower is fantastic on the neighborhood streets. It’s better than fantastic (and probably more than anybody really needs tbh). But a 6.2-liter V8 Super Sport is in its most comfortable state when it gets to stretch out on a track, even if it is simply keeping other race cars at bay, rather than actually participating. A special version of the 50th Anniversary 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS will have that opportunity when it paces the Indianapolis 500 on May 29.This year’s 500 is a special one. Though the 100th anniversary of the the first race was in 2011, some years since then didn’t have races, and this is actually the 100th official running of the legendary race. As such, Chevy picked up a pretty cool driver, as well. You might know the name: Roger Penske. He’ll be behind the wheel of one of four identical pace cars that have some extra boxes ticked that aren’t available to the public. The Abalone White car has 20-inch 50th Anniversary wheels, a new grille with satin chrome accents, a body-color front splitter, orange brake calipers, black leather interior with suede inserts and orange accent stitching, and 50th Anniversary branding all over the place. And Roger Penske is going to drive it.It’s the ninth time the Camaro will pace the race, and the 27th vehicle for Chevrolet. #gallery-2 { margin: auto; } #gallery-2 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-2 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-2 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
