Olly Clark was the fastest man up the hill at this year"s Goodwood Festival of Speed again with a superb 46.29 second run in his bewinged Subaru Impreza. What we have here is a graphic illustration of the kind of commitment a sub-50 second run requires. A lot, basically. Clark crossed the line at 140mph, so we shudder to think how fast he was going before he stamped on the anchors for Molecomb, the unsighted left at the end of the straight at which many drivers have come unstuck over the years. Beat into second place was Kenny Brack in the McLaren P1 LM, whose 47.07 second run looked - if anything - even more on-edge.
