Famously, the original E30 BMW M3 road-car was designed as a homologation for Group A Touring car racing, and in 1986, arrived to begin its course as BMW"s most successful DTM car ever.A year later, it landed in the States. That was 1987. It"s now 2017, and keen maths aficionados will decipher that 2017 marks 30 years since the E30 was available in the USA. BMW Group Designworks has deemed it prudent to offer a one-off, anniversary edition M3 in celebration.Revealed at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, the BMW M3 30 Years American Edition yeah, pretty straight naming structure there honours the North American introduction of that wily little E30 via a special metallic red paintjob, said to better reflect the E30"s original Henna Red from the Eighties.There"s more Eighties-spec goodness than you can shake a Stranger Things hat at elsewhere, too. The one-off, lightweight M Performance 19in alloys are finished in gold, inspired by the E30 M3 Warsteiner"s DTM racing wheels. Also, roof stripes on the CFRP roof.Inside? You get white leather, with blocks of red and blue. Dig even deeper inside, and you"ll also find a raft of M Performance parts fitted to this particular one-off, which, incidentally, is a six-speed manual Competition Pack car. The goodies include M Performance sports suspension (shocks with contrast red springs), which lower the M3 by between 5mm and 20mm.There"s a handmade, carbon-fibre M Performance rear wing, too, complete with racing stripes, and an M Performance exhaust system with a titanium rear silencer said to evoke "sports car racing". Though we only wish BMW had slotted in the GTS"s 493bhp turbo 3.0-litre to better fulfil this brief, rather than the Competition Pack car"s 444bhp"One lucky customer will be able to get behind the wheel of this one-of-a-kind BMW M3," explains BMW.
